Abstract
Social entrepreneurship covers all economic initiatives whose main purpose is social impact and which reinvest the majority of their profits in their mission. It combines the social goals, in terms of solving a problem, and the economic goals related to the operation of the enterprise. The conducted literature review has led to a clear clarification of terms, including the economic aspect. As opposed to this, the “social aspect” consistently lacks a clear framework. The purpose of this master thesis is to conduct a research on the topic of defining the word social in social entrepreneurship. For this, a literature review has been firstly conducted leading to the stated problematic. Finally, an assessment of practical input from actual social entrepreneurs around the globe has been conducted with help of 10 semi structured interviews. A bottom-up approach has been used to find the definition of “social aspect” and whether and how this aspect varies between Europe and Asia, and from country to country. Finally, an analysis of the gather data has been carried out. The present work outline the major results and outcome of this study and constitutes a basic framework for future research in the field of social entrepreneurship.
