- Abstract
- After a preamble on the history of the clown and through the approach of the philosopher Jean-Louis Chrétien to fragility, we were able to find an appropriate language to grasp the clown who travels between the circus and the theater: "The soul" according to Danny Ronaldo, "Laughter" according to Nikolaus Holz, "The ephemeral" according to Jeannine Gretler; to account for this way of inhabiting the stage, we worked on the prejudices that could lock him into concepts of vulnerability. He stages human frailties. It is a protean art that it would be a pity to lock up in a character, style or register. Each artist offers us his or her vision and expresses it on all levels: aesthetics, scenography, dramaturgy.... To stand before a work of clowning is to meditate on our human condition. Its function can be political by freeing humans from their identities that could be too suffocating.
