Abstract
This master thesis investigates the ways of working that allow established organizations to combine efficiency and flexibility in the execution of innovation projects. In particular, we aim at providing managers with tools, guidelines, and a framework to assist them in their endeavor to execute such projects. We based our framework on a literature review over related concepts in the theory. This review includes the following concepts: Ambidextrous Organization, Effectuation, Entrepreneurial Bricolage, Agile, Stage-Gate, Portfolio management. After discussing our framework, that we labelled as Nimble Execution, we present an empirical confrontation with the theory. We conducted several interviews with practicians. Our contribution is to provide managers with some insights toward the mechanisms underlying the management of innovation projects and to provide a framework that will assist them in the execution of these projects by taking those mechanisms into account. We suggest that our framework should be seen as a collection of reflection guidelines rather than a “plug-and-go” solution. We also underline the lack of literature about recommendations for managers over the topic of the execution of innovation projects.
