- Abstract
- This thesis explores the representation of women in the Belgian and British press. The study aims to compare 2000 and 2023, Belgium and the United Kingdom, and types of news : tabloids and broadsheets. By creating and comparing different corpora, the study examines variations in how women are portrayed across these three dimensions. The research aims to uncover differences of representation between the two countries, and the two types of news. It also tracks potential evolution over time. The analysis was conducted using a computer software, Sketch Engine, which allows to compile and compare textual data. This type of analysis is called a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), a method of analysing language to understand how it reflects and reinforces power dynamics, ideologies, and social inequalities within a specific context (in the case of this study, the representation of women).
