- Abstract
- This master thesis relates to a final six-month internship at Appalaches, a Private Equity firm based in Montréal. This study examines how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards are incorporated into the Private Equity (PE) industry, reflecting on the transformative shift towards sustainable finance. It looks at how PE fund companies are adjusting to this change by including ESG factors into their investment strategies and pursuing long-term value creation that includes societal and environmental benefits in addition to financial returns. This study emphasizes new trends, obstacles, and opportunities regarding the incorporation of ESG elements and the expanding understanding of sustainable development as essential to economic growth and stability through a thorough examination of the literature. A case study illustrates practical applications and real-world implications of ESG criteria. The goal of the study is to present a comprehensive knowledge of how ESG standards and Private Equity interact. The results highlight the need for greater standardization of ESG metrics, transparent reporting and collaborative efforts to realize the full potential of sustainable finance.
