- Abstract
- This master's thesis analyzes the impact of remittances on poverty and inequality in Kyrgyzstan. The Heckman two-stage counterfactual methodology was implemented to estimate income levels without remittances using longitudinal data from around 3,000 households. The obtained results show a positive influence of remittances on poverty, although the poverty rates are lower than those reported by the National Stata Committee. Regarding inequality, remittances increase it by 1.9 percentage points.
