Abstract

enRap music has taken an essential place in pop culture for a few years now, yet the profiles of artists remain predominantly male. Among the Italian gangsta rap scene, the figure of Chadia Rodriguez stands out as one of the few female rappers flourishing in this boy's club. She is part of this wave of rappers born of North-African immigration (second generation). Through an approach that blends both cultural and gender studies, the thesis analyzes the strategies that Chadia employs to confront the stereotypes imposed on a young racially marginalized woman in this male-dominated environment, and by extension, within society. The approach aims to be intersectional by crossing her positions as a racially marginalized, feminine individual, and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. At first, the research outlines the distinctions within the rap music genre and its challenges. An assessment of the multicultural situation in Italy is established. Lastly, this work develops how Chadia asserts herself in this milieu through two strategies that play on the idea of unveiling: the 'bitch' figure and emotional vulnerability. La musique rap prend une place incontournable dans la culture pop depuis quelques années, et pourtant les profils d’artistes restent principalement masculins. Au milieu du paysage gangsta rap italien, la figure de Chadia Rodriguez s’impose comme une des quelques rappeuses s’épanouissant dans ce boy’s club. Elle s’inscrit dans cette vague de rappeurs issue de l’immigration maghrébine (de deuxième génération). Dans une approche mêlant cultural studies et gender studies, le mémoire analyse quelles stratégies Chadia met en place pour faire face aux stéréotypes imposés à une jeune femme racisée dans ce milieu masculin, et par expansion face à la société. L’approche se veut intersectionnelle en croisant sa position racisée, féminine et de personne appartenant à la communauté LGBTQIA+. Dans un premier temps, la recherche pose les distinctions au sein du genre de musique qu’est le rap ainsi que ses enjeux. Ensuite, une évaluation de la situation multiculturelle italienne est établie. Enfin, ce travail examine comment Chadia domine dans ce milieu à travers deux stratégies jouant sur le dévoilement : la figure de la bitch et la mise à nu émotionnelle.
