Abstract
The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, a non-profit organization founded in 1895 which aims to conserve and protect the United Kingdom's heritage, took center stage in September 2020. As a matter of fact, a rapport entitled Interim Report on the Connections between Colonialism and Properties now in the Care of the National Trust, Including Links with Historic Slavery has been published. Following this publication, a controversy concerning the National Trust and its stately homes ensued. This thesis aims to study the extent of this controversy, which appeared in The Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Daily Mirror, and The Times. Two different opinions emerge; one part of the population is unhappy with the release of this report because, according to them, it is a politicized attack and it tarnishes Britain's image. The other group felt that it was essential to know about the past in order to understand the present. Three years later, this report is still being talked about in newspapers.
