Abstract

The pursuit of effective communication within teams reveals diverse perspectives among communication experts. Some emphasize clear, concise, and concrete transmission of ideas, while others stress the importance of understanding different communication styles. These varying viewpoints mirror the multifaceted nature of human interactions, leading to disparate opinions on the matter. However, it is widely acknowledged that effective communication significantly influences team performance outcomes. To deeply explore the impact of effective communication on teamwork, this master's thesis meticulously selected and analyzed 20 videos sourced from TED Talks and YouTube. Preceded by an extensive literature review, the first chapter provides valuable context regarding the definition of teamwork, its significance in the professional milieu, and the concept of "successful teamwork." The subsequent chapter outlines the research methodology, including the process of video selection from TED Talks and YouTube. The third chapter is dedicated to addressing the research questions posed in this study: what constitutes effective communication within a team according to the selected TED Talks and YouTube videos? How does effective communication impact teamwork? Furthermore, it examines the perspectives of "experts" from TED Talks and YouTube regarding the advantages and disadvantages of effective communication for teamwork, aiming to uncover potential consensus between these two groups. Additionally, the sub-question "According to the 'experts,' what other factors contribute to effective teamwork?" will be explored and visually presented through a diagram. The differences and similarities between the videos will be meticulously analyzed and compared within the third chapter. The final chapter will comprise an in-depth discussion of the research findings, based on the data chosen for this thesis, and will conclude on the subject of the impact of effective communication within the context of teamwork. Thus, this thesis provides a pivotal contribution to the comprehension of the crucial role of effective communication in the success of teamwork and sheds light on practical recommendations to enhance team performance through appropriate communication.
