- Abstract
- This thesis delves into the transformative potential of wholesale Central Bank Digital Currencies (wCBDCs) within the financial settlement system. Through a comprehensive exploration, the research integrates an analysis of central bank reports, global financial projects, and use cases from the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub. The study underscores the potential of wCBDCs to enhance cross-border payments, emphasizing their role in bridging the gap between traditional financial systems and Distributed Ledger Technology based platforms. The findings reveal the feasibility of interoperability between these systems, suggesting that wCBDCs could play a pivotal role in augmenting the efficiency of financial settlements. While the research highlights the transformative capacity of wCBDCs in revolutionizing financial transactions, it also underscores the dynamic nature of this field, emphasizing the need for continuous research and adaptation. The thesis concludes by outlining the broader implications of wCBDCs for the global financial ecosystem and their potential to reshape the contemporary landscape of financial transactions.
