- Abstract
- The Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Management (SCM) in East Africa stands at the crossroads of immense challenges and profound potential for transformative growth. This study delves deep into the intricacies of the pharmaceutical SCM landscape of East Africa, juxtaposing it against the practices prevalent in developed nations. Geographical complexities, infrastructural limitations, a recurring counterfeit medication issue, and the convoluted drug financing ecosystem emerge as the most pressing challenges. However, the promising initiatives led by organizations like the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and African Medicines Agency (AMA) shed light on the region's unwavering commitment to refining its SCM strategies. Our research concludes with a comprehensive set of recommendations, championing a multi-faceted approach that encompasses technological adoption, infrastructural enhancements, regulatory harmonization, and collaborations at both local and global levels. These strategic insights aim to pave the way for East Africa's pharmaceutical SCM to align more closely with global best practices and serve its population more effectively.
