Abstract
The main objective of this study is to examine the potential benefits and inherent risks that exist in a multigenerational workforce, with an emphasis on Generation X and Generation Y. It catalogs existing works on issues arising from a multigenerational workforce, highlighting the behavioural, work values, communication, and the overall impact on the organisation. An exploratory approach is applied - this helps focus on how these terms impact the organisation and how managers responded. The findings indicated that the possibility of developing a successful multigenerational team exists as there were more similarities than differences in the way each generation viewed the work values of other generations. The challenge for managers and leaders is to acknowledge the work values similarities and, or differences of each generation without developing preconceived biases, ensuring that the different generations in a team interact so that the objectives of the workplace/organisation are attained.
