- Abstract
- This master's thesis explores the development and implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT) based monitoring system within UCLouvain's greenhouse. Using the LoRaWAN network, the study aims to improve real-time data access, simplify monitoring processes, and modernize greenhouse management. It provides a thorough look into the relevant concepts and the steps taken to create a new prototype. This includes detailing the choice and setup of hardware and software components, the arrangement of necessary electrical wiring, and the processes involved in managing effective data transmission. The research also highlights the important decisions made in the design and architectural phases, and the path from initial idea to a working IoT device prototype. A comprehensive set of tests was carried out to evaluate the system's performance, focusing on power usage, network coverage within the greenhouse, and the practical use of the system in a real-world environment. Through these detailed experiments, the study demonstrates the potential of the IoT system in improving efficiency in agriculture and moving greenhouse farming practices forward with the help of technology.
