Abstract
Migraine is a debilitating neurovascular disease and a current public health issue. An appropriate and early treatment of acute migraine is essential to avoid further evolution to chronic migraine. Triptans have been for many years the first choice medication for acute migraine. Recently, new molecules have been approved in the United States, including lasmiditan. Lasmiditan is the first 5-HT1F selective agonist to be approved for the treatment of acute migraine. By using a different receptor compared to triptans, lasmiditan could be a valid alternative for patients who cannot use triptans. The objective of this thesis is to discuss lasmiditan’s therapeutic plus-value compared to other acute migraine drugs based on migraine’s physiopathology as well as different clinical trials and meta-analysis.
