Abstract
The Daily Show is a humorous fake news show that has been replicating the framework of newscast since 1996. While its main aim is to entertain the public with satirical news coverage, reporting, and interviews, it also criticises the structures of television news and politics. The programme has won a great deal of major awards so far, like Peabody Awards and Emmy Awards. For the purpose of this master’s thesis, two videos taken from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, namely What the Hell Else Happened This Year? and This Is U.S., were subtitled into French. The first video is a compilation of important events that happened in 2020, while the second one is a compilation of unusual stories that happened in the United States of America. The translation is followed by a commentary on the major difficulties encountered while subtitling and their solutions. These difficulties are related to various aspects, such as subtitling norms, cultural references, and humour.
