- Abstract
- Biofuel projects have the opportunity to help African countries achieve economic, infrastructure and social development. Sustainable projects can on top of that develop a country without harming present or future generations. However, various downsides of a biofuel expansion have been identified throughout the years. A case study of a sustainable biofuel project in Africa could show how sustainable biofuels mitigate those risks. An ideal project for this analysis is the Makeni Project in Sierra Leone. 90 million liters of bioethanol are expected to be produced and sold to the members of the UE. The project is said to be "a model for sustainable investments in Africa". This thesis will take a closer look at the positive and negative externalities. A True Price assessment will monetize the social and environmental impacts in order to see how much it will cost the Company to be truly sustainable.
