Abstract
Navigation is a complex process that involves multiple mechanisms. These mechanisms had to mature during childhood and adolescence before becoming like adults. This difference between children and adults in navigation leads to a greater variability during displacements. The goal of this study was to assess how variability changes following age. To address this point, we used a new task to assess variability during displacements in a more natural way than before and we recruited children from a wide range of ages. This experiment shows that the variability of displacements decreases with age and is correlated with it. Moreover, our work could mean that variability may be an indicator of the maturation of the mechanisms underlying navigation.
