- Abstract
- Objective: To evaluate the completeness of exercises descriptors in hip strengthening programs to treat patellofemoral pain. Design: Scoping review Literature search: We investigated three databases (PEDro, Embase and PubMed). Study selection criteria: Studies including a hip strengthening program to treat patellofemoral pain were included in our scoping review. A list of descriptors defined by a previous scoping review was used. 19 exercise descriptors were checked for each exercise of each article. Results: 40 studies were screened. The following exercise descriptors were present in more than 50% of the studies: exercise aim, exercise order, training duration, muscle voluntary failure, muscle action, tempo, rest, range of motion, program progress and adherence. The least reported descriptor is muscle voluntary failure (2,5%) and the most reported is experimental period. The number of descriptors reported did not increase through the years of publication of studies. Conclusion: Strength training exercise descriptors are not sufficiently reported in studies on hip strengthening program to treat patellofemoral pain. None of the studies included in this scoping review checked the 19 different descriptors.
