- Abstract
- This Master thesis is taking stock of the international and European situation regarding disinformation in an electoral context. This is done largely through the prism of the status quo for three AI-driven tools used in election manipulation: deepfakes, targeted political campaigning and political bots. The overall proposition of this research is to reflect upon and discuss the subject based on different viewpoints, ranging from those of academic researchers and philosophers to political analysts and computational experts. Hence, this interdisciplinary analysis sits at the crossroad of law, AI technology and sociological considerations. Ultimately, it aims at analysing the 2021 European Commission’s draft Artificial Intelligence Act from the perspective of safeguarding free and fair elections from the risk posed by AI manipulation tools.
