- Abstract
- In 2015, the European Union faced a challenge with great impact on its future, as the events that followed reflected an amalgam of vulnerabilities hard to control. Besides the migration crisis' repercussions, internal disruptions emerged in the form of additional burdens. Given these circumstances, the EU had to balance principles and concrete actions, by constantly oscillating between human security and Member States’ national interests. Aiming to identify the dynamics developed within the decision-making process, and the influence of the Visegrád Group exercised over the European Union’s scope to safeguard migrants, three hypotheses have been proposed. Thus, there will be analysed the heated debates between the pro-EU leaders (European Commission, European Parliament, European Union Court of Justice) and Visegrád with regard to refugees, and the negotiation deadlock within the Council. Furthermore, in an attempt to highlight the concessions made or the compromise reached, the content of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum will also be interpreted.
