Abstract
Bitcoin is a very young engineered technological innovation. Given the level of in-depth knowledge in both cryptography and economics that is necessary to fully understand Bitcoin, it isn’t surprising that many are struggling in understanding this technology. Yet, understanding the opportunity behind this technology has become the mission of many and of this thesis. This thesis will attempt to shed the light upon this new environment Bitcoin has created, its opportunities and risks when perceived as both an asset and a currency.
