Abstract
This thesis thoroughly assessed the various costs and benefits of, on the one hand, maintaining or losing the EQUIS accreditation; and on the other hand, gaining/losing positions within the FT ranking, or being ejected from it. The findings from this analysis were able to bring a concrete answer to the research question of this paper: “Cost-benefit analysis of accreditation and ranking: What is the best strategy for a business school?”. The answer we bring to this research question is that the best strategy for a business school is to make the necessary efforts and investments to keep its accreditation and to remain within the ranking. The reason for that is that the costs of losing an accreditation or being ejected from the ranking outweigh the costs that are necessary to keep this accreditation or to climb up in the ranking. Indeed, this is due to numerous factors, such as the reputation, legitimacy, and status; education quality; or partnerships; that will be harmed in case of loss of accreditation or eviction from the ranking.
