- Abstract
- Understanding the factors that influence child nutrition arises as a necessity in public policy planning. The objective of this research is to determine whether female empowerment has any effect on child nutrition in Colombia. Therefore, this research is based on Kabeer’s definition of empowerment, who understands empowerment as the interrelation of the agency and resources dimension. This research uses the database of the Colombian conditional transfer program \textit{“Familias en Acción”}.The measure of empowerment is based on the exogenous shock of banking occurred in the program in 2009, where banking is the catalyst for empowerment, but it is conditioned to its effect on the agency dimension. The main result is that banking generated a disempowerment of mothers and, in turn, has no impact on child nutrition.
