Abstract

enThis work examines the concept of political representation. The aim is to determine how different groups and their interests can be fairly and equally represented at the political level. The representation of men and women is used here as a reference example. This work is based on various research on this topic, the considerations of Hanna F. Pitkin are particularly important. Various models and ideas of representation are examined and reorganized on the basis of a conceptual tripartition. On the one hand, this tripartition focuses on the representative, his/her characteristics and behaviour, but on the other hand, it also focuses on the represented and examines his/her influence. This makes it possible to clarify the political and ontological consequences of the different approaches of representation and to highlight certain problems in the conceptualisation of the different models. These problems are the starting point for examining the concept of representation and its functioning from a new perspective. The object of representation and the subject of representation are no longer seen as parts of a hierarchical relationship, but are now seen as equal parts of a common relationship. One of the consequences is that the object of representation is given a new role and thus becomes an active part of a representation relationship.
