Abstract
The Economic Emission Dispatch (EED) is an important multi-objective optimization problem in fossil fueled electric power plants operation. It consists in allocating the power production of each committed generator while respecting the operational constraints. The objective of this problem is to minimize simultaneously the total fuel costs and the pollutant emissions that are related to the combustion of the fuels. The EED is a highly nonlinear constrained optimization problem and this thesis focuses on deterministic optimization algorithms to solve the problem. In order to achieve this, different features of the problem are studied. Of all models studied, the most complex one treated in this thesis consists of the static EED using a nonlinear emission function considering the transmission losses and the Prohibited Operating Zones (POZ). Examples from the literature are included in this work in order to validate the results and to analyze in detail the impact of the emissions on the problem.
