- Abstract
- Human activities have both positive and negative impacts on the planet. The importance of reducing negative impacts and increasing positive ones is widely recognized. For this purpose, the United Nations have set the general accepted sustainable development goals (SDGs) with the aim to contribute to the protection of our planet and to make life safe and easy on the earth. The SDGs represent an agenda for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership for a better world. As a master thesis with research orientation which will lead us toward a definition of a PhD project, the objective of this study is to find out and to assess what have already been done about our subject (Challenges and Benefits of SDGs Integration by SMEs: A Comparative Study Between Belgium and Cameroon); therefore, the literature-based review was adopted as research methodology. This research proposal globally presents the state of the art on SDG implementation by SMEs, the challenges they face in the implementation process and some solutions to overcome those challenges, and the benefits they obtain by implementing the SDGs. To further develop our research, we plan to use the comparative case study of SMEs engaged in the process of SDG integration in Belgium and in Cameroon to highlight the differences and similarities in both contexts. We will use the stakeholder approach to explore the question of the motivation and benefits of SDG implementation for SMEs. We will use organizational learning perspective to explore the question of SDG implementation process and we will use the legitimacy theory to explore the influence of different institutional contexts on SDG implementation by SMEs. Our research will contribute to the debate on SDG implementation by SMEs by giving insight on the perception surrounding the SDGs in SMEs. It will also contribute to strengthening the selected theories through their usage in the study of SDG implementation.
