- Abstract
- This thesis is a partial commented translation of the book “Making Sense of the Troubles. A History of the Northern Ireland Conflict” by David McKittrick and David McVea (2012). This book tells the history of the conflict that took place in Northern Ireland between 1968 and 1998 and that is usually referred to as “the Troubles”. This thesis is made up of three main parts. The first section is an introduction in English that deals with the reasons behind the Troubles, before giving an overview of the thirty-year conflict and of the current situation in Northern Ireland. Then, a second section consists of the French translation of two chapters of the book, which cover the years 1972-1976. Finally, the third section deals with translation comments in French about the main difficulties I faced while translating and the way I solved them. A bilingual glossary is also given at the end of the thesis.
