Abstract
There has been an increasing amount of outward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Chinese companies in Europe . In this paper we try to understand the phenomenon by looking at the different motives for these type of investment. We also look at the location factors that make Europe a suitable region to invest in. Lastly, we try to understand if the investments made are a way for Chinese companies for technological catching-up. To complement our reasoning, we looked at the case of Huawei's implementation in Europe and applied the theory to a concrete case.
