- Abstract
- The challenge of measuring water levels is not new. However the techniques have evolved. Nowadays, the technologies propose a new way of doing : the photogrammetry. Photogrammetry consists of modelling objects in three dimensions by use of photography. This method, rather cheap and reliable, has been already used in the field of hydraulics. However, researchers face many obstacles when it comes to determining the water level by photogrammetry. The purpose of the present study is to use this technique to determine the water level of a model river in a laboratory, the ultimate goal being to be able to use photogrammetry on land applications. Two types of flows are studied : permanent flows and transient flows. To confirm the developed method, it is tested on four different discharges : 6 l/s, 8 l/s, 10 l/s and 11.5 l/s. A study of parameters (luminosity, type of camera, type of modelling, textures of water ...) is also presented. The results for permanent flows are encouraging, errors of about few millimeters are obtained. The method linked to transient flows needs to be refined ; however first results are exposed. Improvement tracks for this second type of flow are suggested.
