- Abstract
- The aim of this master thesis is to analyze and characterize the mechanical and metallurgical behaviour of multilayer roll-bonded material. The work has taken into account the manufacturing part of the analysed specimen, namely : alternating layers of Aluminum Al1050 and Steel S235. On one side, several mechanical tests were used in this study, such as : hardening, tensile and four points bending to characterize the multilayered structure. Metallurgical observations were made by laboratory Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray analysis (EDX), optical microscope and micro X-Ray tomography. These observations shows the microstructure, and microscopic defects of the manufactured specimens. Finally, a 2D-simulation was carried out to predict and understand the plastic deformation behaviour of the multilayer sample during the co-rolling process. This simulation supports the behavior of the local necking formed in the S235 steel, and the manufacturing defects formation during the fabrication process.
