Abstract
Online publishing platforms have been gathering millions of readers and writers over the past two decades. Yet their study through literature and digital literature research is only beginning. As widely accessible publishing and reading environments, they exert particular and digital constraints on the written productions they host. It is therefore necessary - before considering the works produced to outline their poetics - to define these constraints, these specific characteristics. This paper first analyses the environment from the perspective of the editorial roles of the following four platforms: Wattpad, Scribay, Plume d'Argent and Leconteur.fr. It then analyzes their users' attitudes and practices, both authors and readers, regarding the tools made available to them. This detailed study of the environments created by the platforms highlights a number of trends that are exacerbated by the digital environment: the standardization of paratextual environments, the horizontality in the distribution of editorial roles among the various actors involved, and the tabularity of reading spaces.
