- Abstract
- European Emission Standards (EURO) have evolved over the years with increasingly stringent pollutants emission limits for new vehicles. Driving cycles have been developed under the Worldwide harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) to simulate real driving conditions on a roller test bench in a laboratory. Since 2017, the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test completes the WLTP by continuously measuring several parameters such as NOx under real driving conditions. In this work, four types of RDE tests have been implemented in order to characterise driving behaviour, using data analysis from an on-board accelerometer. A criteria tree defining different driving styles has been created. Finally, the influence of different driving behaviours on the production of NOx is studied by means of an exhaust gas analyser. The RDE tests are compared with each other to determine the optimal driving behaviour regarding NOx production. Three out of four behaviours are EURO compliant, while a more aggressive driving has a direct impact on the NOx emissions which could be more than two times above the EURO limit.
