- Abstract
- Alstom company aims to review the whole traction chain of metros and regional trains. This chain is generally composed of a mechanical speed reducer (gears) allowing the power transfer between the motor and the axle. These latter do not easily adapt to new, more performant engines. Alstom then wishes to replace the mechanical ones by flux-modulated magnetic gear. In this context, researchers from UCLouvain are developing a model of these. Within this development, the research team is trying to manufacture one or multiple prototypes and comparing their performance to the model obtained by simulation. This work covers the design and mechanical manufacturing of a reduced-scale prototype and a test bench able to evaluate the performance of any reducer.
