- Abstract
- This thesis examines solutions for optimising steel lattice transmission towers in order to reduce their cost through weight reduction. The increasing use of renewable energies to generate electricity is a growing trend in Europe. As renewable energies are produced on a decentralised basis, this transition requires the electricity grid to be adapted to meet growing demand and guarantee security of electricity supply. Increased cable voltages require new types of standardised steel lattice towers. Drawing on research projects and the various design standards for steel lattice towers, and analysing a steel lattice tower in engineering design software, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of steel grade S460 and the geometric modification of the initial tower for the design of future steel lattice transmission towers.
