Abstract
Álvaro Bisama is a contemporary Chilean author who is part of the generation of authors of the literatura de los hijos. This generation embraces writers who were children during the military dictatorship in Chile. Through their works, they yearn to answer the questions they ask themselves and to fill in the gaps – inherited from their elders – that became part of their memory. A false rupture remains between the Pinochet dictatorship and the democratic transition. It influences the treatment of the trauma generated by the horror. In his novels Caja Negra and El brujo, Álvaro Bisama demonstrates a memory of the horror generated by the effects of oppression, as well as the problematic of memory. This brief examines different recurring motifs in the two aforementioned books and articulates them in the image: the house, ghosts, death, violence, memory and legacy. Depending on their use of the different motifs above-mentioned, Caja negra and El brujo treat the history of the Chilean dictatorship with a distinct approach: absurd in the first case, intimate in the second. Thus, this brief highlights the children's vision of the dictatorship, as well as their conception of the memory that results from a significant event and therefore makes it particular.
