Abstract
The choice of this dissertation subject is born of an ambition: to contribute to bringing rap music into the field of research by going beyond the already widespread sociological approach. The initial question that interests us is therefore: can the work of a rapper be studied in a literary way? The choice to study the group IAM in particular stems from its complex identity and the scope of its career, both in terms of its longevity and the number of albums produced by its members. In addition, the group's rappers have an affinity for writing that contributes to their reputation. The richness and variety of their texts make them of real literary interest. This is why our analysis proposes to approach IAM's texts in three ways: first, by taking a brief look at the group's relationship with the media; second, by looking at recurring and varied themes such as humor and its processes, self-narration and its various aspects, and the presence of writing motifs and their meanings; and third, by looking at the numerous narrative texts and the way they are elaborated, while reporting on their diversity.
