- Abstract
- The goal of this master thesis is to accomplish, by SLM (metal additive manufacturing by Selective Laser Melting), the complete conception chain of a functional part from its design to its final manufacturing for the first time at UCLouvain. The SLM is dedicated to advanced industry. This technology is far from being completely accomplished and many aspects still require research and development especially the choice and the accuracy of the numerous parameters. This method entirely changes the design possibilities and opens the way to the topology optimization (optimization of the distribution of matter). The part selected for this work is a sailboat mooring cleat. The thesis is divided into three parts: optimization of the SLM printing parameters, topology optimization and manufacturing followed by characterization of the final cleat.
