- Abstract
- This Master thesis consists in a subtitling of the first Indiana Jones movie, namely "Raiders of the Lost Ark", released in 1981 and directed by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. This paper begins with an introduction in which I develop the notions of franchise, saga and blockbuster, before analyzing the reasons for the success and popularity of this type of film. Following this comes a comparison of four popular franchises, which are Indiana Jones, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Harry Potter. For this purpose, three criteria are studied: film ratings, box office results and earnings, and awards. The second part includes the subtitles created, followed by the related comments, which include explanations regarding the constraints and difficulties encountered during the subtitling process and the translation and adaptation strategies chosen, as well as a comparison with the official subtitles.
