Abstract
The aim of this research is to better situate stratigraphically and chronologically the moment of the eruption of Santorini within the respective history of the settlements of Crete, and thus to better define the nature of the earlier and later contexts. Initially, this will be done region by region, before being carried out in a comparative manner on the scale of the island. In this perspective, a catalogue has been established for thirteen Cretan sites as well as for the site of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini, which envisages, for each site, a study of the distinction between the two ceramic phases of the Middle Minoan IIIB and the Late Minoan IA, when it is possible, as well as a study of the potential existence of sub-phases within the Late Minoan IA phase itself. To do this, these studies consider in detail the stratigraphic and ceramic data available for each site. Subsequently, the whole exercise will be to compare the different results in order to try to establish possible synchronisations between Akrotiri and the Cretan sites, and between the Cretan sites themselves, for these different stratigraphic and ceramic phases identified, which are just prior to and contemporary with the Santorini volcanic eruption horizon.
