- Abstract
- This paper analyses the figure of repetition in two novels by Fernández, Fuenzalida (2012) and Space Invaders (2013), on the basis of Hamel's work on repetition, psychoanalytical work related to trauma, and analysis of the figure of repetition in transitional Chile. The investigation of these works invites us to reflect on the position of repetition as a symptom of a trauma with no way out, or rather of a possible otherness. The preface of this work introduces the reader to the historical development of the Chilean dictatorial and post-dictatorial period, as well as considerations on the figure of repetition in literature. After this review, the reader is invited to follow the analysis of the figure of repetition in each novel, observing its compulsive repetitive or rather innovative character, to finally conclude on the power of literature as a game and memory device, allowing or not to elaborate the trauma of a painful past.
