Since its inception in the late nineteenth century, cinema has been a successful medium to communicate to the masses. This thesis aims to show the timelessness of specific slang words in American and British slang through a diachronic study based on a corpus analysis of screenplays. We will use film screenplays as our corpus data to analyse the evolution of specific slang words on the span of a century. Our findings have helped us understand that some slang words never fully disappear, they go through phases of unpopularity but they come back. Although we have compared the slang used in screenplays, it is important to note that the literature on slang is very scarce and should be expanded.slangA comparison of American and British slang from 1920 to 2019 through cinematext::thesis::master thesisthesis:27714
