This book is an account of politics at the time of ancient Greece and Rome. It relates the birth of this concept through eight ideas as conceived by the ancient Greeks to begin with and than as conceived by the Romans. These ideas were selected because they are the most likely to resonate with contemporary readers. They aimed at helping understand how politics was imagined in Antiquity in order to better understand current political systems and their origins. To do so, Lane relies on several works made by philosophers and dramatists of that time who concerned themselves with examining almost every political decision. This thesis is divided into three sections; the introduction in which prior knowledge is given about the Greek civilisation, the relevance of Athens and the different political systems this era has known in order to facilitate the good understanding of the translation. Then, there is the translation that is based on two chapters of the book, i.e. the introduction and Justice. And finally, the section dedicated to comments on the different obstacles I encountered during the process of translation.Ce mémoire consiste en une traduction partielle commentée du livre de Melissa Lane The Birth of Politics: Eight Greek and Roman Political Ideas and Why They Matter (Les origines de la politique : huit idées politiques issues de la Grèce et Rome antiques répondent de leur pertinence). Ce livre dispense un regard sur la politique du temps de la Grèce et Rome antiques. Il relate les origines de ce concept à travers huit idées politiques conçues d’abord par les Grecs et ensuite par les Romains. Ces idées ont été sélectionnées parce qu’elles sont les plus à même de trouver écho parmi les lecteurs contemporains. Leur but est d’aider à comprendre la manière dont la politique était conçue durant l’Antiquité afin de mieux comprendre nos systèmes politiques actuels et leurs origines. À cette fin, M. Lane appuie ses propos sur plusieurs œuvres de philosophes et dramaturges de cette époque qui se sont inquiétés de l’examen de presque toutes les décisions politiques. Ce mémoire est divisé en trois parties ; l’introduction dans laquelle le savoir à se doter au préalable sur la civilisation grecque, l’importance d’Athènes et les différents systèmes politiques de cette époque est dispensé. Ensuite, la traduction basée sur deux chapitres du livre, à savoir l'introduction et Justice.
