Il corpus comprende dieci album rap italiani: "Disco Raï" di Maruego, "Justin (versione Deluxe)" di Jesto, "Delinquente" di Baby Gang, "Rinascimento" di Laïoung, "L'erba cattiva" di Emis Killa, "Aspettando Orange Country Mixtape" di Tedua, "Sfera Ebbasta" di Sfera Ebbasta, "Lunga Vita a Sto" di Ghali, "20" di Capo Plaza, "23 6451" di Thasup; e dieci album rap americani: "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers" di Kendrick Lamar, "Tha Carter V" di Lil Wayne, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" di Eminem, "Take Care" di Drake, "Graduation" di Kanye West, "Me Against The World" di Tupac, "God's Son" di Nas, "Black Market" di Rick Ross, "No Limit Top Dogg" di Snoop Dogg, "The Black Album" di Jay-Z. I punti teorici trattati includono il significato della famiglia in Italia e negli Stati Uniti, dati sulla famiglia italiana, la sindrome del ritardo nel Sud Europa, le donne e il lavoro, la storia e l'evoluzione del modello familiare americano, la maternità nel rap americano, il parametro dell’istruzione della madre, il triplo vincolo di Niewenhuis e Maldonado (2018), la relazione madre-figlio, la teoria dell’amore materno e dell’attaccamento di Bowlby (1969, 1973). La tesi mostra come la figura materna sia spesso adulata nei testi rap, rappresentando un punto di riferimento essenziale nonostante le difficoltà. Diverse rappresentazioni della madre sono state osservate, tra cui il trauma familiare, la dedizione, la paura, l'incoraggiamento, l'ammirazione e l'orgoglio. La figura paterna è spesso assente o problematica, contribuendo ai conflitti affrontati dai rapper. La ricerca conferma la predominanza della figura materna nei testi rap e evidenzia differenze culturali tra le rappresentazioni familiari italiane e americane, con la madre spesso al centro e il padre associato all'assenza in entrambi i contesti. This thesis examines family dynamics in Italian and American rap lyrics with a particular emphasis on the representation of the mother figure. It provides a comparative analysis of familial models in these two cultural contexts. The theoretical framework encompasses various aspects, including the concept of family in Italy and the United States, demographic data on the Italian family structure, the phenomenon of retardation in Southern Europe, women and the workforce, the historical evolution of the American family model, the portrayal of motherhood in American rap, educational influences on maternal figures, Niewenhuis and Maldonado’s (2018) theory of the triple bind, the mother-son dynamic, the theory of maternal love and the theory of attachment introduced by Bowlby (1969, 1973). This thesis shows how the mother figure is often idolized in rap lyrics, representing an essential reference point despite difficulties. Various portrayals of motherhood were observed, including familial trauma, dedication, fear, encouragement, admiration, and pride. Conversely, the father figure is frequently depicted as absent or problematic, contributing to the conflicts experienced by the rappers.
