Abstract
« Beauty and the Beast », an oral tale known since antiquity, was written by two French authors, Gabrielle-Susanne de Villeneuve and Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. It is a narrative rich in interpretations that has undergone many adaptations in various artistic fields, including the filmmaking industry. This makes us wonder about the teaching of this tale in French-speaking Belgium : what are the teaching practices for tales and especially for « Beauty and the Beast » ? Which part does cinema plays in the teaching of tales ? How do they make the decision to teach tales or not ? This dissertation will attempt to answer these questions, by conducting a survey among high school teachers and individual interviews. We will also propose a didactic lesson entirely dedicated to « Beauty and the Beast » and focused on French literary versions and three films, those of Jean Cocteau (1946), Disney studios (1991) and Christophe Gans (2013).
