- Abstract
- This review aims at synthesizing and describing the existing psychological interventions that evaluate an emotional and/or cognitive process in children with chronic illness. More specifically, this article reviewed the psychological interventions that evaluated emotional and cognitive challenges in children with cancer, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, asthma, acne, rheumatism, allergies, congenital heart disease, eczema, lupus, neurofibromatosis, psoriasis, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or juvenile arthritis. Coping was the recurrent theme of emotional processes evaluated, while working memory was the one repeatedly evaluated in cognitive processes. After screening the existing literature following a certain methodology, and adhering to a set of inclusion and exclusion criteria, this systematic review included 25 studies. Interventions were described in this review to better understand the existing therapies or programs for future intervention development.
