- Abstract
- This thesis is a project thesis, i.e. it is based on the project I was assigned to during my internship in the supply chain project team at Johnson & Johnson in Diegem. The aim of my thesis is therefore to minimize the scrap of parts (at all levels of the BOM) made with the old 4310 alloy, as well as to introduce production with the new 4310 alloy in the smoothest possible way. To do this, I looked at the methods that could be used to implement a phase-out and the ramp-up that goes with it. I then analyzed the advanced planning & scheduling system used by the company (OMP) in order to identify the constraints that prevented the optimization of this phase-out. I then created two tools, which are the scrap optimization tool in Excel and a batch tracking tool in Access, to enable the phase-in process to be accurately monitored, and to remain compliant. Finally, I present the different variables that could have been analyzed in order to optimize the processes, as well as the main limitations, drew the main conclusions and present the next steps.
