- Abstract
- Researchers and practitioners have been making the case that if we don’t understand the dynamics of household decision making, many projects and policies will not achieve their intended effects. Understanding intra-household inequality is crucial for understanding the effects of policy and for targeting programs designed to alleviate poverty. Policy makers intuitively expect that women’s bargaining power will affect key development outcomes, such as the health and education of children and the well-being of the women themselves. It can therefore be stated that intra-household inequalities may be reduced by improving on women’s bargaining power.
