- Abstract
- We present the theoretical study of Rydberg-atom laser cooling by isolated core excitation. We first investigate the electronic structure of calcium Rydberg atoms and find scaling laws for the energy shifts. Then, we simulate the cooling dynamics of the system via the Lindblad equation. Finally, we show that cooling Rydberg atoms by isolated core excitation seems feasible as the scattering rate, for a suitable polarization configuration, is similar to the one of Ca ions.
