- Abstract
- The male gaze has always dictated the way we look at society, and specifically at our bodies. Women are the first victims of this gaze. Laura Mulvey started by theorising the male gaze in cinema, before Iris Brey followed her line of reasoning to theorise the female gaze. While the female gaze has also been theorised in film, this research shows that it can also be adapted to other mediums, notably comics. This analysis is based on two graphic novels: Juliette Mancini's Eveils and Erin Williams's Commute. Although the art is not the same, the female gaze adapts in different ways to show that this is a very topical issue for society.
