- Abstract
- The domain name system (DNS) is part of the critical infrastructure of the modern internet, yet the queries made to it are still unencrypted by default. This causes massive privacy and security issues that can only be mitigated by encryption. Several protocols have been developed to this end, one of them being DNS over QUIC (DoQ). DoQ replaces the classical TCP+TLS transport protocols by QUIC, a new fast, UDP-based, and secure-by-default transport protocol. This work present an implementation of DoQ into flamethrower, a DNS re- solver testing utility. It discusses the specificities and compromises of such an implementation. Tests are done to measure the performance of DoQ compared to other existing encryption DNS transport protocols. They show that DoQ has better performance
